Wheelchair Project

Project description and objectives

The objective was to provide wheelchairs for handicapped people in need of them. Some of them lost their wheelchairs through the events in June or were injured at that time.

Major Activities Completed and Results

We provided wheelchairs for 15 people. Four of these people had wheelchairs that were lost during the events in June. Three of them were burnt with the houses and one was stolen. One young man jumped from the window of his apartment on the fourth floor when his life was threatened. He broke his back and can no longer use his legs. One middle-aged man had a head injury from before but his condition was severely worsened through the stress of not being able to flee from his flat, which was in the midst of the fighting. A middle-aged man was shot in his leg and the bones were shattered.

Many other people who never had wheelchairs before have received one. A man in his 60’s from the town of Gulja had tears in his eyes when he profusely thanked us for his first wheelchair.
